Whitefish River First Nation
Whitefish River First Nation is located on the shores of Georgian Bay and the North Shore Channel, gatekeepers to Manitoulin Island, Ontario and is accessible on Highway 6 and 17. Whitefish River First Nation is a community that encourages, supports, and promotes development within its community and education wellness along with economic development. This community’s colors are Dark Blue which stands for the Thunder Bird Spirits, and White is Head of the Water Spirits. The land base of the community is 5600 hectares in size by 22 square miles. Has large strands of tree species and wildlife that include rabbit, beaver, bobcat, lynx, and other species. The total population is 1,200 members and the village Birch Island has 440 members. There is students on-Reserve that attend Shawanoswe School.
