Description of Services:

Provides services to educate and empower clients to make informed decisions about drug and alcohol use or gambling
Residential Treatment Program
  • Provides a five-week intensive substance abuse treatment program with the option of flexible length of stay for youth requiring further support
  • Through a strength-based philosophy, incorporates skills from dialectical-behavioural therapy (DBT) with a focus on substance use education, helping youth change harmful behaviours through skill acquisition, and building on their existing strengths and capacities
  • Incorporates a harm reduction model which works to build a youth's capacity to reduce the harms and life interfering behaviours associated with substance use
  • A holistic approach is woven through the program in order to help strengthen the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual capacities of a person
  • Includes group therapy, education sessions, life skills development, leisure and recreation opportunities, an introduction to self-help groups, Aboriginal spiritual programming, and relapse prevention work
  • Multi-disciplinary team consists of addiction counsellors, youth workers, family counsellor, therapeutic recreationist, gambling counsellor, medical supports, teacher, and a spiritual advisor
  • Resource people from the community supplement the program, including mental health professionals, and Aboriginal liaisons

Coordinates services with Thunder Bay Integrated Youth Programs (UTURN) to provide the following:
  • Education and screening
  • Drug and alcohol assessment
  • Brief individual counselling
  • Youth gambling
  • Early intervention program
  • Early prevention program
  • Community presentations
  • Continuing care program
