Northwestern Health Unit - Kenora - Health Promotion - Chronic Disease Prevention

Provides programs and services to alleviate and prevent chronic disease

Collaborates with community nursing teams, external coalitions and agencies to implement the programs

Administers the following programs and services:

• Active Living - Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour
• Healthy Living
• Nutrition
• Tobacco Free Living

Focuses on the following areas in an effort to reduce premature death and disability from chronic disease and injury and substance abuse:

• Injury Prevention
• Substance Abuse Prevention

Health Works

• Provides various health-related resources including pamphlets, posters and assessment tools to workplaces on how they can improve the health of their work environment
• Offers a comprehensive workplace health promotion model that includes start-up packages, health hazard checklists and safe water information

Skin Cancer Prevention

• Promotes sun safety and protective measures and the risks associated with exposure to the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun and artificial sources
