Description of Services:
Nursing station providing basic medical and health care services that promote physical and mental health for community members
- Coordinates health care services through the Jeannette-Oscar Lydokenne Nursing Station; health team consists of Community Health Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Homecare worker, a Community Health Representative and X-ray Technicians
- Performs diagnostic imaging (x-rays)
- Provides physician consultations a few days per month through a visiting Physician
- Offers lab and pharmacy services
- Provides health awareness and counseling, education and prevention workshops especially in the areas of diabetes and alcohol/drug abuse
- Coordinates the services of a visiting dentist and provides a dental assistant and a dental hygienist assistant
- Medical Transportation
- Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
- Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
- Reduces the need to travel to receive care
- Participates in Thunder Bay's Regional Critical Care Response Program (RCCR) as a pilot site with other First Nation communities which enables patients to now be triaged and cared for by critical care doctors and other highly-skilled staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre's Intensive Care Unit via videoconferencing equipment prior to air transfer via Orng
