Description of Services:
Functions as the governing office for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities
Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
- Child and Family Services worker on-reserve provided through Tikinagan Child and Family Services in Sioux Lookout
- Hospital services available at Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout and the Margaret Cochenour Hospital in Red Lake
- Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements through Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services (NAPS), Northwest Office; Muskrat Dam detachment ph: 807-471-9911, fax: 807-471-2694
- Fire services are provided by the assistance of volunteers with minimal equipment
- Offers the Muskrat Dam Hotel, Louie's Store and several private businesses
- Offers a community radio station
- Serviced by Wasaya Airways flights through the Muskrat Dam Airport, located 3.7 km N of the community and maintained by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario
- Operates a small community sawmill
- Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and drug and alcohol abuse awareness
- Administers Samson Beardy Memorial School
- Provides health care and health programs at the Nellie Fiddler Memorial Health Centre
- Offers an Aboriginal Headstart program through May-May-Bi-Zin Children's Centre
- Operates Muskrat Dam Youth Centre
- Provides and administers a family residential drug and alcohol treatment facility through the Reverend Tommy Beardy Memorial Treatment Centre for all Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) communities
