Description of Services:

The Youth Mental Health Court program supports transitional youth, who have a mental illness, substance use, or developmental disorder and have been involved in the Criminal Justice System.

The Youth Mental Health Worker will provide consultations to the Crown Attorney, Defence Counsel and other court personnel to link these youth with appropriate mental health services in the community. Youth Mental Health Diversion agreements will be implemented with the consent of the youth and his/ her guardian and approval from the Crown Attorney. In order for the youth to be considered an appropriate candidate for mental health diversion, symptoms of mental illness must have been a factor in the offence that was committed.
