Application
Criteria for consultation for the Development Disabilities Services:
- being referred for diagnostic assessment or review of medication/treatment plans
- has a recognized developmental disability of mild to profound severity and exhibits behaviours that may be attributable to a mental illness
- may have a diagnosis within the autistic spectrum disorders and is not adequately supported by local generic mental health services
Individuals will not be assessed without consent from his/her substitute decision-maker.
If there is a primary physician, he/she must provide a written referral.

Description of Services:
The Developmental Disabilities Services is a part of the Regional Specialized Mental Health Program of North Bay Regional Health Centre.
The clinical team works collaboratively with community-based multidisciplinary teams to achieve the Developmental Disabilities Services goals of optimizing the quality of life for adults with dual diagnosis (developmental disability and a serious mental illness), enhancing independent or interdependent community living, reducing the need for hospitalization or institutional care, and developing regional local partnerships.
The Developmental Disabilities Service provides the following services:
comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment services for adults with a dual diagnosis
monitoring medical-therapeutic outcomes to prevent re-hospitalization
linking individuals to needed community services
individual therapy
skill building
providing support and education to client's support network
consulting with inpatient clinicians
participating in hospital discharge
assisting in research projects
