Kashechewan First Nation - Band Office - Governance

Functions as the governing office for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities

Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:

• Child and Family Services worker on-reserve provided through Payukotayno Family Services in Moosonee
• Hospital services available at Fort Albany Wing of James Bay General Hospital, Fort Albany First Nation
• Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements through Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services, Northeast Region; local phone: 705-275-4555; fax: 705-275-4419
• Community is surrounded by 10 ft dyke as part of the Flood Control Project; danger of flooding requires occasional evacuation of residents
• Responsible for passing own community by-laws and local regulations
• Provides a Canada Post postal station at the Northern Store
• Offers a Tim Horton's coffee shop
• Operates local radio station
• Provides all homes with television cable services and many homes with satellite cable
• Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and problematic alcohol and substance use awareness
