Eligibility - Population(s) Served

For a financial grant the applicant must be working or receiving financial benefits, must have a low income and reside in permanent housing. Contact the office for other eligibility criteria.

Description of Services:

Provides personal support services to assist with housing search needs including advocacy/mediation. Provides a comprehensive listing of rental accommodations in Durham. * Provides information and applications for rent-geared-to-income subsidy assistance. * To access a rent-geared-to-income application visit the Region of Durham website at http://www.durham.ca/ or call 905-666-6239

THE HOUSING STABILITY PROGRAM - Helps qualified Durham singles, couples and families keep their rental housing and not become homeless by offering financial assistance for rental arrears to low income tenants. The Housing Stability Program is not intended to help tenants afford their rent. They must be in a unit that is usually affordable for their income. Applicants can also access financial assistance for last month's rent deposit to secure new accommodations.

LOW-INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LEAP) - is designed for low income families and individuals who are having difficulty in paying a utility bill (gas, hydro). Families and individuals may qualify for a one time grant through an application process. Applicants must contact the Housing Help Durham office to be pre-screened.

HOUSING OUTREACH - works with seniors, families, singles and youth who are homeless, under-housed and/or at risk of losing their housing. The goal of this program is to prevent homelessness by helping clients to find and/or maintain their housing
