Application

  • Apply through the Native Criminal, Family or Combined Courtworkers

  • Referrals can be made through any of the Friendship Centre Program Staff and members of the judiciary

Eligibility - Population(s) Served

Indigenous youth between 12-17 years of age and adults who normally reside in Thunder Bay and have committed certain minor offenses such as:

  • Fraud

  • Theft

  • Mischief

  • Causing a disturbance


Certain offenses are never eligible for diversion, such as (but not limited to) the following:

  • Serious personal violence

  • Sexual assault

  • Child abuse

  • Criminal Code driving offenses such as impaired driving

Description of Services:

  • Provides an alternative justice program to the mainstream justice process
  • Provides an opportunity for offenders to take responsibility for their actions and actively participate in rectifying the wrong they have done
  • Addresses the background of the accused, including addiction issues, loss of identity, family violence and abuse
