Provides rehabilitation services and supports for infants, children, and youth with physical, developmental, communication, or multiple special needs
- Provides services through a multi-disciplinary team with a focus on helping participants achieve their full potential
- Offers an assessment and individualized plan for rehabilitation depending on child's needs, parents and caregivers, and resources available in community
- Collaborates with others involved in the child's life, including, but not limited to, families, daycares, educational staff, and health care providers
Provides services in the following areas:
Occupational Therapy (OT)- Provides suggestions and referrals for children having difficulty with self-care skills (feeding, toileting), productivity (printing, colouring) and play skills
- Can also provide training and education to groups upon request
Physiotherapy (PT)- Provides assessment, counselling, and education for children having difficulty with physical abilities and movement such as rolling, crawling, sitting, walking, climbing, and jumping
- Determines the child's level of functioning and can provide treatment plans, individual or group direct therapy, suggestions for specialized equipment, home programs for use by parents, daycare and school staff, and continuation of the plan of care by another worker under the monitoring of the therapist
Speech-Language Pathology- Works in partnership with caregivers, physicians, educators, and health care providers to prevent, identify, and treat speech, language, hearing and swallowing disorders
- Services can be accessed through a variety of programs such as North Words, Pediatric Rehabilitation Outreach Program, Child Development Services, Ontario Health atHome - North West Area and the Northwest Catholic District School Board
Also delivers School Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) since Jan 2019 when SBRS was transferred to Firefly permanently from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
