Delivers clinical, educational and administrative services via videoconferencing and advanced information communication technologies (ICT's) to member communities
- Focus is on the provision of services that are holistic, community-driven and culturally appropriate
- Brings community members and health care providers together without having to leave home community
- Partners with the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) to facilitate access to specialists and health care services that would otherwise be almost impossible to access in remote communities
- Uses a broadband connection that supports clinical services, Internet, IP telephones, online mental health counselling and video conference training
Opportunities via telemedicine can include:
- Patient and physician/specialist consultations
- Access to education and training for health staff
- Teaching new skills to health workers to provide better care for community members
- Reduction in the isolation of remote areas by development of personal, social and professional networks with others outside the community
