Description of Services:
Provides services that promote physical and mental health for community members
- Coordinates health care services through a nursing station health team consisting of community health nurses/nurse practitioners, a community health representative and a full-time counsellor
- Provides Physician consultations twice per month through a visiting physician from Sioux Lookout
- Provides treatment and emergency services
- Promotes positive lifestyle practices and illness prevention activities
- Coordinates clinics/workshops in areas that may include Diabetes, Immunization, Sexual Health and Communicable Diseases
- Provides mental health services including counselling
- Coordinates visits from dentists and optometrists periodically through the year
- Advocacy on behalf of individual with other health professionals
- Coordination of one-on-one pre-natal care with the community health nurse
- Home visits to the sick, elderly, new mothers and persons with health care needs
- Assistance with coordinating local and long distance travel arrangements for medical appointments
- Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
- Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
- Reduces the need to travel to receive care
